My name is John Courtney, and I am a visual artist based in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
By trade, I am a trained display artist and honed my craft over a 20 year career with top retailers. I have always had one foot firmly planted in my personal art, and the other in my career. However, art was my first love, and I needed to jump in with both feet. So after years of creating for others, I decided to do it for myself, and find the creative freedom I was looking for. Let go of the plan, the boundaries and the ego.
I hope you find the same joy in my art, as I do creating it.

My art is a combination of acrylics and mixed media on large scale canvas.
Freedom is found in the process of creating. There is no desired outcome or envisioned final product. It doesn't matter where I start, it matters how I get there. There are no mistakes or rules. I know a piece is finished when I get a certain feeling. A feeling of satisfaction that can only be derived from going through the creative process.

7 West River Street, Bronte/Oakville
Sovereign House is a historical building located at the very end of River Street in Bronte. Park in the lot located on the left side of the street and follow the path to Sovereign House.
