3rd in a series of 5. The music that shaped me

The Specials first album was released in 1979 on 2 Tone records

A combination of original music and Jamaican Ska covers, The Specials emerged with a sound that was every bit as cool as their look. The attitude and message of their lyrics retained the authentic punk rock feelings of disaffected youth. But the look, style and sound were influenced by the original Jamaican Ska movement started in the 1950s. The stark stylish suits, the use of  black and white photography, the iconic application of black and white checks and a sound that was like nothing I had heard before.
